Helping communities recover safer and stronger
NIBEK Foundation supports disaster-affected communities across Nepal, the Asia-Pacific and Australia with emergency relief, humanitarian engineering, skills transfer and preparedness. We work alongside local people and partners to help communities rebuild safely and stay better prepared for what comes next.
Engineering safer recovery, together
NIBEK Foundation Inc. is an independent not-for-profit association founded in 2026 by Bipan Adhikari, a Craigieburn-based civil and geotechnical engineer. After more than a decade supporting post-disaster reconstruction across Nepal and the Asia-Pacific with UNDP, USAID and Oxfam, Bipan established NIBEK to help communities recover safely and retain practical skills locally.
Our purpose is to support disaster-affected communities through emergency relief, humanitarian engineering, safer rebuilding and preparedness. We work local first, build it right, leave skills behind, and remain accountable—providing help with dignity and impartiality, based on need alone.
NIBEK Foundation shares its name with NIBEK International, Bipan’s engineering consultancy, but operates independently with its own board, bank account and rules. We are an incorporated association registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria (A0129639Z; ABN 65 281 693 806), governed by the Model Rules. Board members serve as volunteers and receive no fees.
Our vision is communities that recover from disaster stronger, safer and better prepared than before. Board member profiles and photographs will be added as information becomes available.
What We Do
NIBEK Foundation supports communities through the full disaster cycle—from urgent relief to safer rebuilding and preparedness. We work with local partners to deliver practical solutions, strengthen local capacity and leave skills behind.
Emergency Relief
In the weeks after a disaster, we help local partners provide shelter items, emergency sanitation and safe water treatment. Support is directed first to households facing the greatest risks.
Safer Recovery & Reconstruction
We provide practical engineering advice on site selection, foundations, structural safety and hazard-resistant construction. The goal is recovery that reduces future risk rather than rebuilding the same vulnerabilities.
Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
We help deliver toilets, water storage and treatment systems that are safe, locally maintainable and appropriate for community needs. Designs consider dignity, accessibility and the safety of women and girls.
Skills & Vocational Training
We train local masons, builders, technicians and volunteers in safer construction and basic engineering practice. Every project is designed to keep useful knowledge in the community long after outside teams leave.
Preparedness & Risk Reduction
We work with communities and schools to understand hazards such as floods, landslides and earthquakes. Together, we plan simple, practical steps that can reduce harm before the next event.
Our impact, from relief to resilience
Nepal: local-led recovery

Asia-Pacific: safer rebuilding and WASH
Across the wider Asia-Pacific, NIBEK focuses on safe water, sanitation and stronger rebuilding. We support local builders and volunteers so solutions can be maintained long after a project ends.
Australia: preparedness and community skills
In Australia, we aim to support disaster-affected communities and preparedness activities where our humanitarian engineering skills can help. We work alongside local organisations and respect community leadership.
